The introduction of SketchUp for iPad in April 2022 immediately demonstrated its potential to significantly enhance your creativity. Now, wherever you go, you can grab your iPad and effortlessly transform your design ideas into 3D sketches. With the latest 6.2 release, you’ll enjoy enhanced features like hover support, DWG file compatibility, Dark Mode, a new Flip tool, customizable shortcut toolbars, Solid Tools, and more, offering a smoother and more personalized modelling experience.
Import and export DWG and DXF hassle-free
SketchUp for iPad now supports importing and exporting DWG and DXF files, eliminating the need to switch between different SketchUp versions across desktop, web, and iPad applications to work with CAD files. Easily import 2D concepts directly from CAD into your iPad and swiftly develop them into 3D models. Need to return to CAD? Export DWG and DXF files directly from your iPad and incorporate them into your 2D designs with the updated files. This seamless connectivity ensures that all SketchUp apps and other software utilizing DWG and DXF formats are fully integrated.
Precision and speed meet with hover
With the new M2 iPad Pro, you can harness SketchUp’s full inference capabilities simply by hovering the Apple Pencil over the iPad. Hover to pinpoint the exact center or endpoint, allowing you to draw accurately without the need for extra guides or temporary geometry. Additionally, moving the Pencil triggers SketchUp’s pre-inference feature, enabling precise object alignment before you begin drawing. Experience faster and more accurate modelling on the iPad with the Apple Pencil!
Easy access to favorite tools
SketchUp for iPad now features two fully customizable toolbars, each capable of holding up to eight tools and settings. Personalize the interface to match your unique workflow and always have your favourite tools within easy reach.
More object control for a faster workflow
From now on, you can manage groups and components on your iPad using the “Save as” and “Reload” options in the Context Menu and Outliner toolbar.
Connect and collaborate
Explore innovative collaboration methods, even when working remotely. Easily contribute individual components to your team’s shared project in Trimble Connect by choosing “Save As > To Trimble Connect” from the context menu toolbar. This enables you to work on each part independently, empowering team members to collaborate on different components while someone else manages updates to the primary model. When edits are complete, simply reload the latest components into the main file.
Intelligent iteration
Would you like to test and explore alternatives for specific products or components in your model? With Reload, it’s simple. By reloading components from the 3D Warehouse, you can experiment with different options in your design. Create a base model and use Reload to seamlessly replace all parts with alternatives. Witness a world of possibilities unfold before your eyes at lightning speed.
Curated components
Save, organize, and access your custom component libraries across all SketchUp versions and devices. Simply select “Save As > To 3D Warehouse.” You can choose to keep your components private or share them with SketchUp’s global community by making them public. To replace components with items from your library, navigate to “Reload > From 3D Warehouse.”
Built-in ease with Tag Folders
Enjoy simplicity with the new standard feature of Tag Folders. Efficiently create and organize long lists of tags within the iPad app. Tags and Tag Folders now seamlessly synchronize between desktop, web, and iPad apps, ensuring consistent organization while modelling and presenting. Easily display and conceal different design concepts by toggling multiple tags on and off with a single click using Tag Folders. With consistent tags across devices, organizing your work is effortless no matter which device you’re using.
Flip with confidence
Master flip transformations effortlessly with the redesigned Flip tool. When you activate Flip, clear planes will indicate where you can mirror your selection. Simply tap on a plane to flip around it, or drag it to set a custom transformation location. Now you can confidently flip without any guesswork or rework.
No geometry too complex with Solid Tools
Solid Tools make modelling intricate geometry a breeze, and now they’re available in SketchUp for iPad. Whether you’re crafting precise joinery or designing complex shapes by combining two or more solids, Solid Tools has got you covered. Combine two or more solids into one with the following Solid Tools:
Trim
Use object A to create a suitable cutout in object B. Great for wood connections!
Intersect
Create object C by merging the overlapping geometry of objects A and B. For instance, determine the amount of soil to be excavated for a foundation.
Split
Divide intersecting elements into two new elements. Useful for mass studies, such as identifying what can be retained or removed.
Subtract
Cut geometry from object B using object A, leaving only object B behind. For example, easily create an opening on a curved surface.
Union
Merge multiple solids into one, removing inner geometry. Useful for constructions like a roof with a dormer window.
Outer Shell
Retain only the outer geometry of a solid, removing inner portions. This is beneficial for 3D printing to conserve material.
Dark mode is easy on the eyes
Night owls and late-night workers take note: SketchUp for iPad now also features a Dark Mode, which is less tiring on your eyes during the late hours!
