Discover the Exciting New Features of SketchUp 2025
Take a dive into the new features SketchUp 2025 has to offer. With powerful new visualisation and interoperability tools, you’ll bring your ideas to life effortlessly.

A new spring is almost synonymous with a new and improved edition of the design tool that over a million creatives worldwide rely on. SketchUp 2025 introduces photorealistic materials, seamless collaboration, customisable content, and more. You can do more in SketchUp with less effort and fewer iterations.
Cutting-Edge Visualisation Tools
The next-generation visualisation tools in SketchUp 2025 take your designs to a whole new level. Photorealistic materials and environments offer powerful yet easy-to-use options to make your designs stand out. You can access these ground-breaking tools not only through the desktop version of SketchUp, but also with SketchUp for iPad, Web and, last but not least, LayOut and 3D Warehouse.
You see and feel lifelike materialisation, making it easier to make informed decisions and create assets that pull your clients into your vision. The new photorealistic materials and Environments, combined with Ambient Occlusion from SketchUp 2024, form a powerful trinity of visualisation tools.

Photorealistic Materials
With the new library of photorealistic materials, you can bring vibrancy to your models. These materials accurately represent textures and how they absorb and reflect light, helping you tell a more precise visual story. Unlike flat images, photorealistic materials provide lifelike effects such as reflections, textures, and metallic finishes.
Easily apply materials with drag-and-drop functionality, or create your photorealistic materials. Whether you’re designing concept visuals or preparing for advanced renderings, SketchUp 2025 serves as your all-in-one toolkit. The standard libraries grant access to hundreds of photorealistic materials via 3D Warehouse.
With Generate Textures, you can enhance your material library by creating custom materials. This new AI-powered feature allows you to sample images or physical materials and generate new, tileable textures with just one click.

Environments
In SketchUp 2025, lighting and materials work together to enhance realism. Environments are 360-degree (HDR or EXR) image files that serve as both a background (sky dome) and a light source, directly influencing how photorealistic materials interact with light.
Use Environments to set the lighting conditions for your models, ensuring accurate material representation. The new Environments panel allows you to explore and adjust settings like image angle, exposure, and reflection. Check out the 3D Warehouse library for available Environments.

Seamless Data Management with Interoperability Updates
Move in and out of SketchUp with confidence, knowing your data remains intact thanks to enhanced IFC support for Pro users. Improvements in data consistency, predictable file imports and exports, and minimized rework risks keep your building information secure. Key updates include better IFC class recognition, version retention, geometry optimization, and new component dictionaries. Check the changelogs for more details.
For SketchUp Studio users, the updated Revit Importer UI gives more control over which Revit elements to import into SketchUp. The latest edition improves interoperability with Revit and IFC files, ensuring better collaboration and accuracy in project execution.

Configurable Content
Accessing high-quality content is easier than ever with the new SketchUp Content Library in 3D Warehouse. This fresh collection of configurable models, photorealistic materials, and Environments supports the most popular workflows. Expect regular content releases, updates, and improvements.
Live Components
Add rich context and iterate designs faster with Live Components. These pre-built, customizable objects have officially graduated from SketchUp Labs. Quickly configure parameters like size, type, and material to create tailored objects.
With your SketchUp subscription, you gain access to over 200 new and updated components via 3D Warehouse.

Improvements in LayOut
In 2025, LayOut is more intuitive than ever. Its tools now align better with SketchUp’s behaviour, ensuring a smoother transition from 3D to 2D. LayOut viewports now display Ambient Occlusion, Environments, and photorealistic materials, improving visual consistency across the SketchUp ecosystem.
