Twinmotion 2025.1 is available!

We are excited to introduce Twinmotion 2025.1 by Epic Games! This latest release brings a host of fantastic new features and improvements, enhancing both performance and usability. Here’s what’s new:

Unreal Engine 5.5-Integration 

Twinmotion now runs on Unreal Engine 5.5, bringing several enhancements:

  • Lumen Performance Boost
    Improved performance if the hardware supports Ray Tracing.
  • Path Tracer Enhancements
    Denoiser improvements (Note: Not supported on macOS).

New Features & Enhancements

Alias .wire File Import

Autodesk Alias is widely used in automotive design. Twinmotion now supports direct import of Alias .wire files, with geometry accuracy controls and optimization options. Alias must be installed for this feature to be available.

Flip Face Tool

Imported surface meshes may have incorrect normal directions. The new Flip Face tool allows users to correct this without returning to the original software.

Mirror Mesh Tool

For Alias users modelling half of a vehicle, the new Mirror Mesh tool simplifies the mirroring process.

New Carbon Fiber Materials

Four new coated carbon fibre materials have been added under Materials > Metal.

Interactive Presentation with Configuration

A new Configuration media type allows users to trigger actions (e.g., change materials, open doors) by clicking buttons in the viewport. Users can save various object properties, visibility states, and ambience settings.

Note: Cloud-based configuration is planned for version 2025.2.1. Visibility and ambience changes cannot yet be applied to videos or sequences.

Tire Base Material

To address UV mapping issues with imported tyres, a new material automatically applies UV coordinates and textures. Four tyre materials have been added under Materials.

Automatically applies UV projections to objects with incorrect or missing UV mapping, allowing users to reorient UV projections in three directions.

Camera Motion & Animation Improvements
  • Smooth Camera Motion
    New intuitive controls for camera speed and path management.
  • Camera Orbit
    Enables easy creation of orbit animations around objects.
  • Camera Constraint to Target
    Ensures precise framing with automatic rotation toward a target.

Projector Light

A new Projector Light allows users to project images or videos onto environments, ideal for entertainment and video mapping applications. Includes settings for keystone adjustments, lens shift, and border masks.

Sequencer UI Improvements
  • More precise editing in Sequencer.
  • Support for multiple storyboards.
  • Improved path control within Sequencer (excluding Animators, Character, and Vehicle Paths).
Environment Tab Redesign & Presets

The Environment tab has been overhauled, offering clearer distinctions between Dynamic Sky and HDRI modes. Users can also apply new Environment Presets for quick mood settings.

Realistic volumetric clouds now interact with sunlight and cast shadows.

A new Confetti Confetti System has been added under Objects > Particles. This is the first of several planned particle effects enhancements.

Performance & Visual Improvements

Automatic LOD Generation

Enhances scene performance with an automatic Level of Detail (LOD) system. Users can choose from three presets (Simple, Normal, Complex) to optimize geometry rendering based on camera distance.

Ensures consistent shadow rendering across real-time and Path Tracer modes.

Fog Improvements

More control over fog with additional settings like Fog Height Falloff, Start Distance, and localized fog actors.

Sun & Sky Enhancements

New settings for Turbidity (sky clarity) and Atmosphere Density (simulates different atmospheric conditions). Users can now adjust the Sun Color and Temperature, including in HDRI mode.

Car Paint Material Enhancements

New controls for Pearlescent Scale, Clear Coat Roughness, and Imperfections (dust, fingerprints, scratches) improve realism.

VR Optimization
  • Configuration triggers now work in VR.
  • Enhanced teleportation controls.
  • Performance improvements via Instanced Stereo and DLSS anti-aliasing.
  • Lumen is now available in VR (manual enablement required).

Editable Spline Update
  • Replaces legacy editable spline with a more advanced version.
  • Adds features like bezier handles, spline colour coding, and selection improvements.
Real-Time Orthographic View

Now supports Standard and Lumen rendering modes with:

  • Improved shadow rendering.
  • Black outline removal for cleaner visuals.
Measure Tool Enhancements
  • Redesigned Measure tool with an additional quick-measure feature.
  • Shift+Click allows axis-aligned measurements.

Note: Measure tools are not visible in Path Tracer or Media Preview mode. of Media Preview-modus.

Twinmotion 2025.1 is available for free to all active Twinmotion users. The new release is automatically offered in the Epic Games Launcher. Is it still not there? Then log out, restart the Epic Games Launcher and log in again.
